Biotope: Damp meadows or in forests or hedgerows on low growing vegetation.
Geographic area: Europe and temperate Asia east to southern Siberia.
Observation period : April to August.

Zophomyia temula shows a relatively thin and elongated body.
The thorax and the abdomen are a shiny black colour. The legs are black and bear long spines.
The wings are translucent except on the base which is an orange yellow colour.
The eyes, covered with sparse hairs, are relatively small and spaced.
There is a possible confusion with Mesembrina meridiana belonging to the Muscidae family. This last species shows a much larger and much rounded shape with large hairless eyes.

Zophomyia temula
I have observed this tachinid fly on the low growing vegetation on the bank of a small stream.
The thin and elongated shape of the abdomen gives a good confidence to the identification of the species.
