Moths of the Virbia genus are found in the Americas. Species of North America show red or pink marks on the hind wings. These colours are replaced by yellow in the Neotropical region.
Virbia elisca shows greyish blackish brown fore wings and dull black hind wings.
The upper side of the hind wings is marked with a large orange yellow patch, next to the apex, extending from the second half of the costal edge to half of the marginal edge.
This patch is finely bordered with black along the edge of the wing and more widely near the apex. The underside of the hind wings show a similar patch than on the upper side.
The underside of the fore wings is marked with a broad orange yellow median band, finely bordered with black on the costal edge and on the inner edge.
Virbia subapicalis is very similar and only differs by the shape of the orange yellow patch on the hind wings. The inner edge of the patch is slightly curved towards the abdomen on Virbia elisca, it is straighter on Virbia subapicalis (to be confirmed as I have found pictures that contradict this point).
On the only picture of Virbia satara that I have found, the yellow patch on the hind wings is thinner and so there is a larger black area at the apex of the wings.

I have shot this picture in the small village of Saül, walking upwards on the Belvédère footpath.
This is one mating.

On this picture, by transparency on the fore wings, you can guess the broad yellow median band on the underside.
