Aphids of the Uroleucon genus are medium size to large size aphids which can be shiny red, reddish brown or blackish brown. The tubercles at the base of the antennae are well developed, smooth and show diverging sides. The antennae are about as long as the body. The hairs on the upper side of the abdomen are located on scleroites which are usually dark. The cauda is yellow, dark or black. It is finger shaped, long and rather pointed. |

The identification of the host plant is an important criterion to determine aphid species. This becomes much more difficult when the aphid is observed on a wall … However I think that most of the criteria linked to the Uroleucon genus can be seen on this picture. |
