Scientific name: Turdus nudigenis (Lafresnaye, 1848) Common name: Spectacled Thrush Other names: Bare-eyed Thrush, Yellow-eyed Thrush. French name: Merle à lunettes, Grive à lunettes, Grive chatte. Order: Passeriformes Family: Turdidae Size: Body size: 23 to 24 cm; Weight: 50 to 75 g. Habitat: Open and dry areas with trees, sparse groves and thickets, parks and gardens. Food: Spectacled Blackbirds mainly feed on the ground on berries, fruits and small invertebrates. Nesting: The nest is a bulky cup, consolidated with mud and located quite low in a tree or bush. There are one or two clutches of three or four eggs per year. Migration: Sedentary. Geographic area: Northern South America, Colombia, Venezuela, northern Brazil, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, southern Lesser Antilles. |
The upper side of the Spectacled Blackbird is a solid olive brown colour. The underside is a paler coffee colour. The throat is white and streaked with dark brown. The eye is surrounded by a broad circle of bare yellow to orange-yellow skin. |

I observed this Spectacled Blackbird in the beautiful Balata garden. You can see the white throat streaked with brown but it is still quite dark in overall colour. |
