Scientific name: Thelaira solivaga (Harris, 1780) Common name: French name: Order: Diptera Family: Tachinidae Wingspan : 8-11 mm. Biotope: Meadows, hedgerows, woodland edges. Geographic area: Europe, Asia east to eastern Siberia. Observation period : June to August. |
Tachinidae are flies whose larvae parasite other insects. They show a prominent post-scutellum and the M1 vein of the fore wings which suddenly curves. Thelaira solivaga shows an elongated abdomen, long legs, short antennae and hairless eyes. The abdomen generally bears a black median band bordered by white, black and orange spots. The base of the wings is orange. The median tibia bears three long antero-dorsal setae. There is a possible confusion with Thelaira nigripes, Fallén, 1817. This last species, which is given as more common, only shows two antero-dorsal setae on the median tibias. |

Having no clear view of the median tibias I cannot decide for Thelaira solivaga or for Thelaira nigripes. So I will just list this one as Thelaira sp. |
