Stenopterus rufus (Linnaeus, 1767)

Wingspan : 7-16 mm.
Biotope: Woodland edges, track sides, parks and gardens. Larvae grow in dead branches of many deciduous trees. Adults are observed on flowers where they feed on nectar and pollen. The development cycle lasts two years.
Geographic area: Europe, missing in Scandinavia and in the British Isles, Near East.
Observation period : May to August.

Stenopterus rufus has a black head and a black thorax. The abdomen bears white or yellowish white cross stripes.
The elytra are reddish with a black base and a black apex. They are slender and do not reach the tip of the abdomen. Each of them bear a central longitudinal keel.
The two first articles of the antennae are black. The followings are a lighter colour with the three first of them showing a black apex.
The femora are swollen into thick clubs. These femoral clubs are black on the fore legs and middle legs. The femoral clubs of the hind legs are reddish with a very small black area at the apex. The other parts of the legs are reddish.
Stenopterus ater shows black femoral clubs on the hind legs.

The femoral club of legs I and II are black. Those of legs III are reddish. So this one is Stenopterus rufus.
