Host plant: The caterpillars feed on the seeds of the different species of Alders (Alnus sp).

Stathmopoda pedella has very typical resting position with its hind legs held at right angle from the body and slightly oriented upwards.
These pale yellow legs show brown tufts of hairs and well visible spurs.
The fore wings are yellow with brown scales at the base. They bear two partial dark brown cross stripes.
The hind wings are a shiny brownish grey colour.
The head is pale yellow.
Stathmopoda pedella over winters as a larva inside a cocoon down in the litter.

Stathmopoda pedella
I have observed this specimen of Stathmopoda pedella on the bank of a small stream where Alders grow.
This species is very easy to identify.

I have tried to shoot a front view picture so that you can see how the hind legs are positioned.
I will try to get a sharper picture on a next observation.
