Biotope: Mountain meadows and shady places at an altitude between 1300m and 2200m.
Geographic area: European mountains except extreme northern areas. Kazakhstan, Mongolia.
Flight time: July-August.

Caterpillar: Hairy, yellowish-green with a dorsal and lateral dark green lines. It grows with Lasius niger ants and Black-Backed Meadow Ants (Formica pratensis).
Host plant: Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia)

The upper side of the male's wings is a sky blue colour with a wide (about 3mm) dark brown outer border.
The upper side of the female's wings is brown.
On both sexes, the underside of the wings is pale brown with black spots, larger on the forewings than on the hindwings. A typical white streak crosses the hindwing.
The Damon Blue overwinters as an egg or as a young caterpillar.
