Scientific name: Platycnemis pennipes (Pallas, 1771) Common name: White-legged Damselfly French name: Agrion à larges pattes Order: Odonata Suborder: Zygoptera Family: Platycnemididae Wingspan: 45 mm. Biotope: The larvae lives in stagnant or running water. The imagos never fly far away these areas. Geographic area: Europe, except extreme North and south of Spain. Flight time: May to September. |
The White-legged Damselfly has a thin and straight body. Males are a more or less dark bluish white colour. Females are brownish. The eyes are separated. Males' eyes are blue, females' eyes are brown. The tibia of the middle legs and hind legs are white and wide. They are dark-lined along the upper side. The upper side of the abdomen shows a black longitudinal line which is sometimes discontinued. |
