Geographic area: All Europe, North Africa, Asia to Himalaya. Flight time: April to October. Number of generations : 2 or 3. Caterpillar: Green with black spots and a wide yellow stripe on each side. Host plant: Brassicas like cultivated Cabbage (Brassica), Rape, Mustard and Nasturtium. |
The fore wings are white with black tips. They are similar for both sexes. The black or grey tip is darker in the summer brood. The hindwings show two black spots, darker on females. The hindwings are pale yellow with a mark near the margin. The Large White over winters as a pupa. |

We can rarely see the upperside of the large White's wings as they are very often shut when the butterfly is landed. I have not well controled the depth of field on this picture. |
