Biotope: Forests and any other place where Bracken grows in profusion. Geographic area: Europe, temperate Asia, Middle-East. Flight time: May-June. Number of generations : 1 Caterpillar: Brown with longitudinal pale and dark lines. Host plant: Common Bracken (Pterideum aquilinum). |
The Brown Silver-line's forewings are a very pale greyish brown colour and show two pales straight lines. A dark brown scaling is preceding each line. There is a black discal spot. The hindwings are greyish-white with a smaller grey discal spot. The Brown Silver-line flies at dusk and during the night. It is attracted to light. It over winters as a pupa. |

After having read papers about the Brown Silver-line, I better understand why I have observed this moth while walking thru Brackens. I plan to do the same kind of photo sessions next year to view this species again and to observe other species linked to this plant. |

It has not been very easy to find an angle of view without any obstacle to take a picture of this brown Silver-line. |

It is very easy to observe the Brown Silver-line in this forest area where large beds of Common Bracken are growing. |
