Eurasian Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus (Linnaeus, 1758))

Size: Body size: 24 to 25 cm; Weight: 64 to 67 g; Wingspan: 44 to 47 cm.
Habitat: Deciduous forests, poplar groves, parks and gardens with high trees, orchards.
Food: Insects and fruits.
Nesting: The nest is a sort of open cup built by females between two small branches. It is usually well concealed in the foliage quite high in a tree. There is one clutch per year of 3 or 4 eggs.
Migration: Eurasian Golden Orioles winter in central and southern Africa. Their departure on migration southwards takes place quite early, generally in August and sometimes late July.
Geographic area: Europe but missing in Iceland, Ireland, a great part of the United Kingdom and Scandinavia. Central Asia as far as northern India. North Africa.

Male Eurasian Golden Orioles show a golden yellow plumage with black wings. The tail is black with a yellow border on about one third of the outer feathers length.
There is a small black marking ahead of the eye.
There is a small yellow carpal spot in the middle of the wing which appears as a crescent in flight.
The bill is pink. The legs are short.
Females are duller in colour. Black is replaced by brownish grey and the yellow parts are more greenish. The underside of the body is streaked.
Juveniles resemble females with better marked underside streaks.
