Orcynia calcarata mimics wasps with its black and yellow body and with its elongated and half opaque wings. The head is mainly yellow with a black stripe between the antennae. The antennae are rather long. They are a yellow orange colour and slightly pectinate. The thorax shows 6 bright yellow patches, 2 at the back of the head on the prothorax, then 3 elongated patches on the mesothorax and at least 1 on the scutellum. The abdomen is fusiform-shaped and bears 3 large yellow patches on each side on its first half. The hind leg tibias show 4 small spurs. The hind leg tarsi are orange yellow. |

I have shot this picture at Roura, at Camps Patawa, during a light trap night session. You can clearly see the 4 spurs on the hind tibias. |
