Biotope: Places with many grasses, sunny waste lands, dry and calcareous meadows. Geographic area: Europe, Asia. Flight time: June to October. Number of generations : 1 Caterpillar: The caterpillars are greenish black. You can sometimes observe many of them in a dense silk web on the host plants. Host plant: Bird's-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) and Clover (Trifolium) |
The Oncocera semirubella's fore wings show a white band (sometimes missing) on the costal edge, followed by a pink area covering about the half of the wings. The remaining part, next to the inner edge, is yellow. The hind wings are white with brown scaling. The fringe is white. The prominent labial palps are upwards curved. Adults are active since the end of the day and they are attracted to light. Oncocera semirubella over winters as a caterpillar. |
