Scientific name: Omocestus viridulus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Common name: Common Green Grasshopper
French name: Criquet verdelet
Order: Orthoptera
Family: Acrididae
Wingspan : 14-23 mm.
Biotope: Damp meadows with high grasses, woodland edges.
Geographic area: Europe and temperate Asia, south of the Polar Circle, missing in the extreme southern regions, disappeared from plains and now only found at high altitude, up to 2600m, in western Europe.
Observation period : Mid-June to October.

The Common Green Grasshopper does not show any basal lobe on the elytra. The antennae are thread-like.
The hind knees are black. The median area of the elytra or tegmina (located between the median and cubital veins) is not enlarged.
The carina on the pronotum are flexuous. The labial palps are light coloured.
The body colour varies from green to yellowish, brown or reddish brown. The underside of the abdomen is a uniform yellowish green colour.
The tip of the elytra is darkened. The upper side is always green on females.

Common Green Grasshopper (Omocestus viridulus)
I have observed this Common Green Grasshopper in the mountains of Belledonne, France, at an altitude of about 1700 metres. There is no green colour on the upper side of the elytra so this one is a male.
The carina on the pronotum appear more straight than flexuous but this may be only because of the angle of view. Thanks to contact me if you think that my species identification is wrong.
