Scientific name: Mocydia crocea (Herrich-Schäffer, 1837) Common name: French name: Order: Hemiptera Family: Cicadellidae Wingspan : 3 to 4 mm. Biotope: High grasses as well in wooded areas as in meadows. Geographic area: Europe, north to northern Germany, east to the European part of Russia. North Africa, Turkey. Observation period : All year round. The new brood appears in August, mating occurs in autumn and mainly females overwinter. |
Mocydia crocea is a general creamy brown colour with whitish veins. There is a row of darker cells on the lateral side. Vertex, pronotum and scutellum are longitudinally striped with creamy brown and white. The eyes bear two very sharp orange longitudinal stripes. The tip of the wings is pointed. Cells I and II are not touching. Leafhoppers of the Mocydiopsis genus show wings on which cells I and II are touching. The tip is more rounded. |
