Minyops carinatus has an oblong body shape with a generally bumpy appearance and an earthy colour. The rostrum is slightly arched and slightly thickened at its tip. There are two deep furrows on each side. The antennae are thick and short. The rostrum and prothorax bear a longitudinal keel. The prothorax looks bumpy. The elytra have raised and granular interstriations. Minyops variolosus differs in that the rostrum is not keeled. |

Here is an insect that moves quite slowly and is therefore easy to observe when it is disturbed from its nocturnal hiding place. This top view clearly shows the longitudinal keel which runs along the prothorax and the rostrum. |
