Metalampra sp. (Toll, 1956)

Scientific name: Metalampra sp. (Toll, 1956)
Common name:
French name:
Order: Lepidoptera
Suborder: Microlepidoptera
Family: Oecophoridae
Subfamily: Oecophorinae
Wingspan: 10-14 mm.
Biotope: Deciduous forests with dead wood.
Geographic area: Metalampra cinnamomea is found in all Europe except in the Iberian Peninsula, the Balkans and the British Isles. The geographical range of Metalampra italica, one species separated from the previous one not so many years ago, is still badly known and does not seem to be limited to Italia (France, Germany, Croatia, Belgium, England, etc.)
Flight time: May to August.
Number of generations : 1
Caterpillar: Caterpillars are found under the bark of decaying wood. We don't know if they feed on wood, bark or fungi.
Host plant: Decaying wood.

The Metalampra genus is represented by two species in Europe. It is very difficult to differentiate these two species on pictures, that's to say Metalampra cinnamomea (Zeller, 1839) and Metalampra italica (Baldizzone, 1977).
The fore wings are greyish brown to reddish brown with pale yellow markings. You can distinguish one line running from the base of the fore wing to the middle of the inner edge and two marginal spots, one close to the tornus and the other one close to the costal edge.
The hind wings are greyish.
Metalampra cinnamomea and Metalampra italica are attracted to light.

Metalampra sp.
I have read that Metalampra italica is a more reddish brown colour, like this specimen, than Metalampra cinnamomea. This is however controversial and, furthermore, colours of digital pictures sometimes differ from the real colours. So I will just list this one as Metalampra sp.
