Biotope: Rocky places and mountain damp meadows, between altitudes of 1600 and 2300m. Geographic area: Southern and central Europe, western Asia, from north of Spain to the Alps, the Balkans and the Caucasus. Flight time: June to September. Number of generations : 1 Caterpillar: Dark green with an interrupted dorsal line bordered by two rows of yellowish spots. You can also distinguish one yellow sub dorsal line and two yellow lateral lines. Host plant: Many low growing plants and in particular the Baldmoney (Meum athamanticum) and the Purple Lettuce (Prenanthes purpurea). |
The fore wings of Mesotype verberata are a creamy white colour. They are crossed by 3 to 5 grey brown wavy lines, not always sharply marked. The central lines are sometimes touching at the middle of the wing. The hind wings are whitish and crossed by 1 or 2 weekly marked lines. Mesotype verberata over winters at the egg state. |
