Scientific name: Liparus coronatus (Goeze, 1777) Common name: French name: Charançon couronné, Charançon de la carotte. Order: Coleoptera Family: Curculionidae Wingspan : 6 to 15 mm. Biotope: On or near Umbelliferae, Chervil (Anthriscus sylvestris), Wild carrot (Daucus carota), etc. The larvae develop in the roots where they overwinter before emerging the following spring. Geographic area: Europe, Caucasia, Kazakhstan. Observation period : April to September. |
Liparus coronatusl has a black, shiny body. The rostrum is long and strong. The antennae are bent and located near the tip of the rostrum. The elytra are roughly punctuated, the prothorax and the head are more finely punctuated. Small golden yellow scales form two pairs of spots on the sides of the prothorax as well as a thin continuous border on the posterior edge at the start of the elytra. We can also find a few very scattered scales on the elytra. The femurs are plump and toothed. Liparus germanus has many more spots on the elytra. Liparus glabrirostris does not have a golden border on the posterior edge of the prothorax. Liparus dirus is completely black without any golden scale. |
