Lasiorhynchites olivaceus (Gyllenhal, 1833)

Scientific name: Lasiorhynchites olivaceus (Gyllenhal, 1833)
Common name:
Other names: Old scientific name: Rhynchites olivaceus, (Lasiorhynchites was upgraded from a subgenus of Rhynchites to a genus in its own right.).
French name:
Order: Coleoptera
Family: Attelabidae
Wingspan : 3.3 to 5.5 mm.
Biotope: Forests, forest edges, on Oaks (Quercus spp), Hazels (Corylus spp) and Hawthorns (Crataegus spp).
Geographic area: Europe north to southern Sweden, North Africa.
Observation period : Adults are observed from April to July.

Beetles of the Attelabidae family are distinguished from weevils of the Curculionidae family by their non-elbowed antennae ending in a 3-segmented club inserted at the base of the rostrum.
The parallel-edged elytra are wider than the pronotum.
The larvae grow in rolled up in leaves.
Members of the Lasiorhynchites genus have a small scutellar stria at the base of the elytra (top view required). The rostrum is as long as the pronotum.
Lasiorhynchites olivaceus is a dark metallic blue colour and is covered with long, brown hairs.
The pronotum is about half as wide as the elytra and has rounded edges. The head and pronotum are finely punctuated, the elytra more strongly.
The eyes are prominent.
The 9th elytral stria merges with the 10th at the level of the posterior hips (the striae are counted from the inner edge of the elytra so this is located close to the outer edge. A profile view is necessary).
There is a possible confusion with Lasiorhynchites sericeus and Lasiorhynchites cavifrons. For these two species the 9th and 10th elytral striae remain parallel along their entire length.
In addition, the points of the striae become finer or disappear towards the tip of the elytra in Lasiorhynchites cavifrons. They remain of constant size in Lasiorhynchites olivaceus.

Lasiorhynchites olivaceus
The photo is not perfect but I think I can see a fusion of striae 9 and 10 towards the posterior hips which therefore indicates Lasiorhynchites olivaceus.

This top view allows to see the small scutellar stria. The punctuation of the elytra which remains of constant size until the tip allows to discard the Lasiorhynchites cavifrons species.
