Scientific name: Forpus passerinus (Linnaeus, 1758) Common name: Green-rumped Parrotlet French name: Toui été, Perruche à croupion vert Order: Psittaciformes Family: Psittacidae Size: Size: 12 cm; Weight: 20 to 28 g. Habitat: Woodland edges next to rivers, sparse woodlands, parks and gardens. Food: Small seeds of Graminae, fruits, berries and buds. Nesting: The Green-rumped Parrotlet nests in tree holes or in other cavities. It often uses old nests of woodpeckers. There may be two broods of 5 to 7 eggs per year. Migration: Sedentary. Geographic area: Tropical regions of South America, from Venezuela south to northern Argentina. Introduced to Jamaica. |
The Green-rumped Parrotlet is a very small green parrot with a short pinkish hooked bill. The upper side of the plumage is slightly darker than the under side. The forehead and the cheeks are a little more yellowish. The wings are dark green with blue covers only on males. The Green-rumped Parrotlets live in pairs during the breeding season. Then they gather in small noisy groups of about twelve birds during the rest of the year. |

I have shot this picture at Awala Yalimapo, les Hattes, while walking on a footpath going southwards from the D22 road. This observation has been done rather in the far so this picture is an important crop. |
