Scientific name: Eysarcoris venustissimus (Schrank, 1776) Common name: Woundwort Shield Bug Other names: Old scientific name: Eysarcoris fabricii French name: Order: Heteroptera Family: Pentatomidae Wingspan : 6-7 mm. Biotope: Hedgerows, wastelands and woodland edges. Geographic area: Europe, Asia, North Africa. Observation period : The larvae are seen from late June until October on Hedge Woundwort (Stachys sylvatica), sometimes on White Dead-nettle (Lamium album) or on other Labiates when the previous ones are out of season. Imago are seen from August until next July. |
Eysarcoris venustissimus is a small greyish shield bug. The head and the base of the pronotum are a dark metallic copper colour. The base of the scutellum shows a copper-coloured triangle-shaped mark. The scutellum has a wide rounded tip which is whitish and punctuated with dark. The connexivum is marked with black and white. The legs are whitish with some black dots. |
