Scientific name: Erebia alberganus (de Prunner, 1798) Common name: Almond-eyed Ringlet French name: Moiré lancéolé Order: Lepidoptera Suborder: Rhopalocera Family: Nymphalidae Subfamily: Satyrinae Wingspan: 40-46 mm. Biotope: Mountain flower meadows. Geographic area: Europe, from northern Spain and Italia, east to Bulgaria. Flight time: Mid-June-August. Number of generations : 1 Caterpillar: Pale green with a grey head. The body tapers at the rear. There is a thin dark green dorsal line outlined with white colour. Host plant: Graminae and particularly those of the Festuca genus. |
The Almond-eyed Ringlet shows dark brown wings with a post discal row of orange almond-shaped spots marked with a black dot often with a white centre. These spots are visible on both sides of the fore wings and hind wings. Almond-eyed Ringlets over winter as caterpillars at an intermediate development stage. |

There were numerous Almond-eyed Ringlets in the alpine pastures of the mountains of Belledonne, France, at about 1700 metres of altitude. |
