Wingspan: 24-28 mm.
Biotope: Damp meadows, marshes, boggy heathlands.
Geographic area: Eurasia, from the Iberian Peninsula to Japan and Korea, missing in the more northern regions.
Flight time: May to September.
Number of generations : 1 sometimes 2.
Caterpillar: Green, a little darker on the upper side with two yellowish white lateral stripes outlined with dark green. The head and thorax are green.
Host plant: On different Poceae and in particular those of the Calamagrostis and Carex genera.

The Silver Barred shows olive green fore wings crossed by two white thin oblique lines outlined with black.
These lines are an irregular shape and they are merged with the reniform and orbicular spots.
There is a pale line close to the margin and one comma-shaped marking on the costal edge close to the apex.
The hind wings are a creamy white colour powdered with some brown scales.
The head and thorax are greenish brown.

I have observed this Silver Barred in a damp meadow of the Basse Vallee du Doubs.

A short walk among the meadow has been enough to observe several specimens of this nice small noctuid.
