Scientific name: Ctenonotus terraealtae (Barbour, 1915) Common name: Les Saintes Anole Other names: Previously considered as a subspecies of the Leopard Anole (Ctenonotus marmoratus). French name: Anolis des Saintes Order: Squamata Suborder: Sauria Family: Dactyloidae Size: Up to 25cm long for males and 15cm long for females. Habitat : Trunks and rocks.. Food: Small insects and spiders. Reproduction : Oviparous. Females lay the eggs in soil. Geographic area: Les Saintes Islands. |
Anoles are diurnal lizards, excellent climbers, with an elongated head, a pointed snout and prominent eyes. Males have an orange dewlap (throat pouch) under the head. Females have a whitish dorsal line. Les Saintes Anole is a slightly variable colour but often dull greyish brown. It is characterized by its eyes circled with orange yellow. It can also show orange patches on the sides of the body and sometimes on the tail. |
