Geographic area: Europe and Western Asia. In North America, Crambus pratella is replaced by Crambus whitmerellus which is very similar.
Flight time: May to August.

Host plant: The larvae feed on the roots and on the base of the stems of many herbaceous plants.

Crambus pratella shows narrow fore wings like the other members of the family.
The fore wings show white longitudinal streaks, rather wide an elongated. The back end is pointed and bordered by a thin brown line.
There is a whitish post-median line bordered with brown.
The margin is greyish with some triangle-shaped black marks next to the fringe.
The fringe is white with a black outer edge.
The Crambus genus includes several very similar species, in particular Crambus lathoniellus, which is a slightly larger size and whose white streak marks are thinner.
Crambus pratella has mainly a nocturnal activity but you can sometimes observe it during the day.

I have observed this moth in a clearing. This picture is an important crop.

Crambus pratella
I have still a doubt between Crambus pratella and Crambus lathoniellus. With a more rigorous approach, I should have indicated Crambus sp.
