Family: Corvidae
Size: Body size: 45 to 47 cm; Weight: 450 to 600 g; Wingspan : 92 to 100 cm.
Habitat: Common and widespread: Open country, moor lands and dry areas.
Food: Various food including carrions, invertebrates, seeds and berries. The Carrion Crow also visit other bird's nests and eat chicks and eggs.
Nesting: The female lays 3 to 5 eggs, in April-May, in a bulky stick nest often built in a tree.
Migration: Resident.
Geographic area: Europe, western to a line from Denmark to the North of Italia, missing in the North of Scotland. In eastern Europe the Carrion Crow is replaced by the Hooded Crow. You can find again the Carrion Crow in Eastern Asia.

The Carrion Crow is a totally black bird, including bill and legs.
It shows a short square tail.
Both sexes are similar.
The carrion Crow differs from the Common Raven by its thinner bill and its throat feathers are not fluffing.
The Carrion Crow differs from the Rook by its wider and not whitish bill.

Most often, I can see Carrion Crows in wooded areas.
Rooks are merely seen on roadsides and open fields.

As my EOS 300D camera measures a center weighted exposure (on the black carrion crow's plumage), I have set a -1 IL correction.

Carrion crows are not a very shy birds. It is easy to shoot close-up pictures.
