Cortodera humeralis has two long orange or blackish orange antennae.
The head, the pronotum and the elytra are variable in colour, mainly black or tawny. The elytra are black with tawny spots on the shoulders, or tawny with a black dorsal inner margin.
It is covered with a sparse golden pubescence.
The legs are black or tawny with black femora apex (less marked on the fore legs and even sometimes missing).
The similar species Cortodera femorata is rather linked to pine forests and has a more northern range.
You can tell this last species apart by the hairless median line on the pronotum.
The larvae live in surface soil layer where they feed on dead twigs and dead roots.
