Scientific name: Celypha lacunana (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) Common name: Dark Strawberry Tortrix French name: Tordeuse du fraisier Order: Lepidoptera Suborder: Microlepidoptera Family: Tortricidae Subfamily: Olethreutinae Wingspan: 16 to 19 mm Biotope: Woodland edges, hedgerows, grassy areas. Geographic area: Europe, including most northern regions. Flight time: April to late September. Number of generations : 2 Caterpillar: Very variable, usually more or less dark brown with a black head. It rolls leaves together and makes a cocoon which later falls down in the litter. Host plant: Many herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees. |
The Dark Strawberry Tortrix shows fore wings marbled with brown and crossed by silvery lines. You can see darker brown marks on the post median part of the fore wing. The legs are brown with white rings. The hind wings are a uniform dark brown colour. These moths are variable in colour and you can observe darker ones. The Dark Strawberry Tortrix is attracted to light. |
