The Campopleginae subfamily includes 65 genera of small, difficult to identify Ichneumon wasps. They are small, slender, black and brown insects with a laterally compressed abdomen. They parasitize the larvae of many insects. Many species produce black and white cocoons. |

I photographed this cocoon on a leaf of an old plum tree. I initially thought identification would be difficult but my research quickly pointed me to the Campopleginae subfamily. |
