Biotope: Near slow running water bordered by damp meadows. Geographic area: All Europe except the Iberian Peninsula. Western Asia and North Africa. Flight time: May to September. |
The male's body is metallic blue coloured. Each of the four wings shows a blue mark starting from the middle of the wing and ending before the apex. The female is bronze green with clear wings. The Banded Demoiselle feeds on insects captured in flight. The female totally goes under water to lay the eggs, holding on a water plant. The larva lives two years under water. The imago only lives a few weeks. |
