The Automeris genus includes more than 200 species. The fore wings are generally brownish or greyish with dark spots and/or streaks. They provide an excellent camouflage among dead leaves or on trunks. The hind wings usually show large false eyes on an orange or yellow ground colour. When threatened, these moths drop to the ground and show their hind wings, shaking them to scare predators. |
