Scientific name: Arundinicola leucocephala (Linnaeus, 1764) Common name: White-headed Marsh Tyrant French name: Moucherolle à tête blanche Order: Passeriformes Family: Tyrannidae Size: Body size: 12 to 13 cm; Weight: 10 to 16 g. Habitat: Marshes, marshy savannah, reed beds, mangroves. Food: Insects caught in flight, on vegetation or even at the surface of water. Nesting: The nest is made with grasses and other plants. It is an ovoid shape with the entrance on one side. There are 2 to 3 eggs per clutch. Migration: Sedentary. Geographic area: Tropical regions of South America, from Colombia, Venezuela and Trinidad in the north to Bolivia, Paraguay and northern Argentina in the south. |
Male White-headed Marsh Tyrants have a blackish body with white throat and head. The bill is blackish except the lower mandible which is orange. Females are brownish grey on the upper side, darker on the wings. The under side is whitish. The forehead, the face and the throat are a pure white colour. Juveniles are greyish. |

I have shot this picture at the Marshes of Caw. We have approached one pair of White-headed Marsh Tyrants. The female, being shyer than the male, was already gone when, located at the back of the boat, I have been able to find an angle of view to shoot a few pictures. |

The White-headed Marsh Tyrants flew away to hide in the dense vegetation formed by the Moco-mocos bordering the marshes. |

We have observed the pair of White-headed Marsh Tyrants close to this nest which is not exactly ovoid-shaped. Maybe it is still under construction. |
