Amaxia chaon has a bright yellow head. The upper side of the thorax and of the abdomen are brownish red. The antennae and the legs are red and buff. The basal third of antennae is bipectinated.
The fore wings are pale yellow. The base and the area close to the inner edge are a dark reddish colour.
There is a small remaining yellow streak at the base of the costal edge.
The dark reddish area is marked with small silvery white spots. The two larger spots, close to the inner edge, are touching each other.
The pale yellow area is marked with sparse tiny reddish dots.
There is a triangular reddish marking starting from the costal edge near the apex and tapering into angulous shapes towards the inside of the wing.
The hind wings are yellowish white with a more pale reddish tint over half of the wing close to the inner edge.
