Biotope: Grassy areas. Geographic area: Europe, Asia Minor, central Asia. Flight time: Early June to early September. Number of generations : 1 Caterpillar: White with greyish spots and an orange brown head. It grows inside a silken tube, attached to the base of stems on the host plants. Host plant: Various grasses including Sheep's Fescue (Festuca ovina) and Common Meadow-grass (Poa pratensis). |
Crambidae moths show protruding forwards labial palps whose length is at least twice the length of the head. Agriphila straminella is a small size Crambidae. The fore wings are a rather uniform colour, light yellowish brown. They show a whitish pattern near the inner edge, which divides into parallel stripes after the postmedian area. The greyish and white fringe is bordered with a line of black dots. Agriphila straminella is attracted to light. |
