Scientific name: Aegithalos caudatus (Linnaeus, 1758) Common name: Long-tailed Tit French name: Orite à longue queue, Mésange à longue queue. Order: Passeriformes Family: Aegithalidae Size: 12 to 14 cm, 7 to 9 g. Habitat: Woodlands, bushes, moorlands and parks. Food: The Long-tailed Tit mostly eats insects and spiders. It can come to feeders to eat seeds in winter. Nesting: The nest is made up of moss, lichen and feathers, held together with spiders webs. The Long-tailed Tit lays 8 to 12 eggs between April and June. Migration: Sedentary Geographic area: All Europe except the North of Scandinavia. |
In spite of its name this bird does not belong to the Tit family. The Long-tailed Tit has a round body, black on top, white below and with a long tail. The top of the head is white. During Autumn or Winter, these Tits move in group of 8 to 15 birds. These groups are made up of the parents and this year's juveniles. |

I have finally got a sharp picture. Long-tailed Tits are used to coming very close to my window and my pictures are often all blurred. |

The Tits are attracted to fat balls. They never come alone but often in pairs or groups. Taking pictures is somehow difficult as they are constantly on the move. |
