Male Adeloneivaia jason shows triangular fore wings with a very straight outer edge.
They are divided into two parts by a thin straight blackish line starting just before the apex and ending at the middle of the inner edge.
Concerning the Adeloneivaia jason jason subspecies, the area towards the margin is pale pinkish yellow. The other area, towards the base, is pale yellow. This last one is crossed by a thin dark line starting about at one fourth of the outer edge and ending at one fourth of the inner edge. The part of the wing delimited by this line and closer to the base is pale pinkish yellow.
The pinkish colour is replaced by a slightly darker brown colour on the Adeloneivaia jason nigripunctata subspecies.
There is a white eyespot, circled with dark, at the centre of the wing. It is accompanied by one or more smaller spots next to the costal edge.
The hind wings have a rounded costal edge which is often extending on each side when the moth is landed. There is a reddish patch close to the inner edge.
Females are larger and paler. They wings have a more rounded shape with a clearly convex outer margin.
Adeloneivaia boisduvalii is a darker colour. The basal part of the fore wings is more orange. The hind wings do not have any reddish patch close to the inner edge.
Adeloneivaia pelias which is found in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia is very similar to Adeloneivaia jason but differs by a shorter wingspan.
