My preferred pictures of 2010

No great change in my photo equipment in 2010. The purchase of true macro lenses has been postponed to 2011.
I have also started to build an infrared barrier system to take pictures of nocturnal mammals. I am hoping to get the first results in 2011.
My wildlife watching activities seem to indicate that I am rather naturalist-oriented than photography-oriented. I am wondering whether this is a personal orientation or whether this is because I am a little disappointed by my shot pictures.

Guadeloupean Anole (Anolis marmoratus(Duméril & Bibron, 1837)) - Guadeloupe, France - March 2nd 2010

Guadeloupean Anole (Anolis marmoratus)
Canon EOS 40D, EF300mm f/4 L IS USM lens.
F/4.6, 1/125 s, 200 ASA. Focus distance: about 1,5m.
This picture is cropped.
I have taken several pictures with different focus settings.
I can confirm that the best picture is the one where the exact focus is on the lizard's eye.

Antillean Crested Hummingbird (Orthorhyncus cristatus(Linnaeus, 1758)) - Guadeloupe, France - March 3rd 2010

Antillean Crested Hummingbird (Orthorhyncus cristatus)
Canon EOS 40D, EF300mm f/4 L IS USM lens.
F/5.6, 1/500 s, 200 ASA. Focus distance: about 6m.
This picture is slightly cropped.
I am very happy of this picture. The Hummingbird's eye is very sharp and the wings' moving blur shows the high wing beat frequency.
I only regret the dark area in the background behind the bird's head.

Golden-bloomed Grey Longhorn (Agapanthia villosoviridescens(De Geer, 1775)) - Yvelines, France - April 29th 2010

Canon EOS 40D, EF300mm f/4 L IS USM lens.
F/10, 1/250 s, 200 ASA. Focus distance: about 1.5m.
No difficulties to shoot this picture with a totally immobile insect on a morning without any wind.

Western Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus)
Canon EOS 40D, EF300mm f/4 L IS USM lens.
F/4, 1/160 s, 200 ASA. Focus distance: about 10m.
Despite a grey and rainy weather I have been able to shoot a few pictures of this female Western Roe Deer playing hide-and-seek in a wheat field next to a woodland edge.

Western Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus)
Canon EOS 40D, EF300mm f/4 L IS USM lens.
F/4, 1/40 s, 400 ASA. Focus distance: about 8m.
This Western Roe Deer, lying on the ground in the forest, stood up as soon as I have approached. It just looked at me quietly.
Thanks to optical stabilization, I have been able to shoot very sharp pictures with my camera handheld and at a shutter speed of 1/40 second.

(Evarcha arcuata(Clerck, 1757)) - Saône-et-Loire, France - September 5th 2010

F/16, 1/250 s, 200 ASA, flash. Focus distance: about 25cm.
Here is the best I have done before purchasing true macro lenses.
